As a visitor the only information we collect is impersonal data, which helps us statistically monitor our web site and page views, determine the popularity of certain content, and deliver better targeted advertising. However, if you ask healthcare providers to bid on your procedures, you will need to register on our site, and provide personal data. When you register for the site, we collect personal information from you such as your email address, username, password, date of birth and your physical address. Our main goal in collecting this data is to provide you with the most efficient, user friendly and customizable healthcare experience. We will also use your information to pre-fill fields to save you from entering the same information over and over again . Once you give us your personal information, you are no longer an anonymous visitor to us, although your anonymity to the outside world is still protected through your username and password. Specifically we collect and store the following personal information: email address, physical address details, username, password transactional information based on your activities on the sites (such as bidding, buying, review, forum posting, and other account activity); community forum discussion chats, dispute resolution, correspondence through our sites, and correspondence sent to us; your medical records and details of the procedures that you want health providers to bid-on other information from your interaction with our sites, services, content and advertising, including computer and connection information, statistics on page views, traffic to and from the sites, ad data, IP address and standard web log information; information from other companies, such as demographic and traffic data; and other supplemental information from third parties - When you search on our web site, we store the search times so that we can continually improve the quality of the search we offer.

Personal Health Data

As a registered user of the site, you can upload and store health records that are used by the service Practitioners to make their bids. You may use one of our templates, or may scan and fax actual records, quotations or other health data that you receive from laboratories, service providers, doctors , etc., and others on your behalf. You will be able to store this data in your records archive on our secure site. We may verify your identity before you can store and retrieve information on the site.

Using Information from SmartHealthBuyer

SmartHealthBuyer gives you price transparency, and encourages a number of health providers to bid for your business. These health providers will have access to the personal health data that you supply to enable them to bid for your business. We cannot guarantee the privacy or security of your information once it is available to our third party health providers. To help protect your privacy, we allow only limited access to just the data that can facilitate your healthcare transactions.

Marketing and Advertising

We don't sell or rent your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes without your explicit consent. We may combine your information with information we collect from other companies or use your data for statistical purposes (without inclusion of your identity) and use it to improve and personalize our services, content and advertising. If you don't wish to receive marketing communications from us or participate in our ad-customization programs, simply indicate your preference once you sign-on in your account page.

Children / Minors

Although anyone can view our pages, registration is restricted to those over 18. We do not collect personal information from any person we actually know is younger than 18. A parent or guardian, however, may use SmartHealthBuyer to bid for procedures on behalf of a minor, and acknowledge that they have full responsibility for submission of accurate data and will undertake best efforts to protect the medical records of the minor.

Our Disclosure of Your Information

We know how important it is to keep the information you've entrusted to us confidential. We will not rent, sell or share personal information about you with third parties except to provide you with a product or service you request or under certain circumstances as described below. In all other cases, we will ask for your permission before we disclose your personal information. We may only release trusted information to the following in the exceptional circumstances below: Law enforcement or other governmental officials, in response to a valid subpoena or court order, relating to a criminal investigation or alleged illegal activity. Members of our corporate family to help detect and prevent potentially illegal acts and provide joint content and services (for example, registration, transactions and customer support). If you send an email to an email address that is not registered in our community (via Refer-a-Friend or other tools), we do not permanently store that email or use that email address for any marketing purpose. We do not rent or sell these email addresses.

Account Protection

Your password acts as the key to all your personal data. It is best to mix unique numbers, letters and characters to create unique passwords, and avoid obvious ones such as your date of birth. Please don't share your password; if you do, you are responsible for all activity on your account. You may be subject to legally binding actions taken on your behalf, if you lose control of your password. Accessing, Reviewing and Changing Your Personal Information

You can see, review and change most of your personal information by signing on to SmartHealthBuyer. Generally, we will not manually modify your personal information because it is very difficult to verify your identity remotely. You must promptly update your personal information if it changes or is inaccurate. Once you make a public posting, you may not be able to change or remove it. Upon your request, we will close your account and remove your personal information from view as soon as reasonably possible, based on your account activity and in accordance with applicable law. We do retain personal information from closed accounts to comply with law, prevent fraud, collect any fees owed, resolve disputes, troubleshoot problems, assist with any investigations, enforce our User Agreement, and take other actions otherwise permitted by law.

Security

The security of your data is paramount to us. We take the following steps to ensure that your data is protected to the best of our abilities.

  • We require both a User ID and a password in order for users to access and post health records.
  • We have physical level security on our servers and the data back-ups that are located in the United States to prevent direct access to the data, and maintain audit trails so that we can track medical record activity
  • We use hardware and software firewalls to protect information held in our servers from hackers over the Internet
  • We use encryption in the form of a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) to transmit and store health records to our servers. In order to take advantage of encryption technology, you must have an Internet browser which supports 128-bit encryption
  • We closely watch and monitor the limited number of SmartHealthBuyer Health employees and outside contractors who have potential access to your health data. All the employees and contractors have to abide by our privacy policies and face disciplinary actions if they fail to do so.
  • We strictly limit access of your medical records to authorized and certified health Practitioners. SmartHealthBuyer enables you to have full control over who has access to your records. You can select only those Practitioners that you choose to review your records.

However, despite our best efforts third parties may unlawfully intercept or access transmissions or private communications, and other users may abuse or misuse your personal information that they collect from the site. Therefore, although we work very hard to protect your privacy, we do not promise, and you should not expect, that your personal information or private communications will always remain private.

Market Research

In order to improve our services the SmartHealthBuyer Market Research Department, or its affiliated contractors working on our behalf, may conduct market research. If you are asked or prompted to complete a survey, you may be asked for personal information, such as zip code, age, sex etc. This data is not used for sales purposes, but helps the company improve its marketing messages and products, and is for market research only. Personal data collected in this way will only be used by SmartHealthBuyer and it's affiliates and will not be given or sold to a third party without your consent or as otherwise permitted by this Privacy Policy.
